Meet Kathryn

Kathryn Barnett M.S. CCC-SLP
ASHA Certified SLP
PROMPT Trained

Kathryn Barnett M.S. CCC-SLP

Kathryn received her masters degree in Communication Disorders: Speech-Language Pathology at Adelphi University.  She owns Barnett Speech Therapy, a small private practice located in Greenlawn NY, that specializes in the assessment and treatment of children and young adults with speech and language needs.

Kathryn started her journey in communication disorders after being a stay at home mom for her two daughters.  As a mother, she realized that she wanted a career helping children.  Kathryn went to graduate school at night while taking care of her two children during the day.  Although it was challenging, she would not have had it any other way.  Her experience as a stay at home mom and going to graduate school at night helped her become the kind and empathetic speech-language pathologist that she is today.

TESTIMONIALS

"Kathryn Barnett was a godsend to our family! I initially hired Kathryn privately to give PROMPT speech support to my son who was already receiving EI speech with another provider, but making no progress at all for months. I immediately saw how far superior Kathryn’s services were compared to that of the other provider. On a long term vacation I hired another provider privately, and also saw then how Kathryn’s approach was so much more effective, by comparison. Eventually we were lucky enough to have Kathryn provide EI speech to my son for over a year. His language exploded and his pronunciation consistently improved throughout this time. There were no behavior battles whatsoever to get him to cooperate with whatever speech therapy work was going on, which was in stark contrast to his previous EI therapist. He was thrilled every time she came. Kathryn followed his lead in terms of interest and wove into their play many very specific skills that she targeted repeatedly for weeks until sufficient mastery was shown. She would then carefully choose the next skill or two to focus on and move from there. Her approach seemed almost surgical in its precision. After months of seemingly no progress at all with other providers, and behavior problems as a result of all of his frustration, Kathryn’s work with my son brought bountiful communication and consequently enormous relief to him and my entire family. We are so grateful to her. I couldn’t recommend her more."
